As we know, for many years, Greek and Turkish people lived peacefully together in both contries until the population exchange in 1922. And Celal başlangıç who is a writer of the book called “KaliMerhaba” wrote the stories about friendship between the Greek and the Turkish people…
A story from his book tells us how respectful they were …
Here is a story/ an extract from the book ;
“…I was new there, on the island and walking around. I saw a nice garden full of fruit trees. When I saw the plums, I just wanted to taste them as if I was craving. I tried to see if there was anybody in the garden so I could ask for some and I saw a lady in the garden.
“Madam, is it possible to buy 2 kilograms of these plums?” I said
The lady gave me a bag full of plums. I wanted to pay for it but she said
“ eat them… enjoy it…you don’t have to pay anything”
“ but madam…” I said.
“ ..eat those plums like they are from your garden….
and who knows perhaps, before me, there was a Turkish family living in this house… So please eat it as if you own the garden. “
